Set up Capgo in Cursor

Three steps or less. Copy each block as is.

  1. Step 1

    Add the hosted Capgo MCP

    Add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json for all projects, or .cursor/mcp.json for one. Cursor shows Needs login next to the server: click it to sign in. No API key needed.

    ~/.cursor/mcp.json
    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "capgo": {
          "url": "https://api.capgo.app/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
  2. Step 2

    Add the local CLI MCP for builds and uploads

    Run npx @capgo/cli@latest login once in the terminal, then add the capgo-cli entry next to capgo.

    ~/.cursor/mcp.json
    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "capgo": {
          "url": "https://api.capgo.app/mcp"
        },
        "capgo-cli": {
          "command": "npx",
          "args": [
            "@capgo/cli@latest",
            "mcp"
          ]
        }
      }
    }
  3. Step 3

    Install the Capgo skills

    Cursor reads skills from .agents/skills and .cursor/skills.

    Terminal
    $ npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills

Cursor notes and limits

  • The Cursor agent runs terminal commands, so it can also call the Capgo CLI directly.
  • Cursor Cloud Agents do not get skills that only live on your machine. Commit .agents/skills to the repo to share them.
  • Turn off tools you do not need in Cursor settings to keep the tool list short.

FAQ

Capgo and Cursor: common questions

Can Cursor build my iOS app without a Mac?

Yes. Cursor runs the Capgo CLI, which uploads your project to Capgo Build. Capgo signs and builds the iOS and Android apps in the cloud and can send them to TestFlight and Google Play.

Native build docs

Do I need a Capgo API key for Cursor?

No API key needed for the hosted MCP: it signs in with OAuth. The local CLI MCP and the CLI use an API key that you save once with npx @capgo/cli@latest login. Create the key in the Capgo console under Settings, Organization, API keys.

Can Cursor roll back a bad update?

Yes. Ask Cursor to point the channel back to the previous bundle. Devices switch on their next update check. The Capgo updater also rolls back on its own when a new bundle fails to start.

Live update docs

Are live updates allowed on the App Store and Google Play?

Yes, for the web layer: JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and assets. Native code, new permissions, and new plugins still need a store release, which Capgo Build can make for you.

What does it cost to use Capgo from Cursor?

The MCP servers, skills, and CLI are free to use. You need a Capgo plan, and every plan starts with a 14-day free trial with no credit card. Builds, live updates, and Observe are in every plan.
